Sometimes we tend to forget that women rock! Well here are 7 women who rock!

Katherine Johnson

  • African American mathematician, physicist and space scientist
  • Brilliant “female computer”
  • Graduated  high school at 14 and college at 18
  • Hired in 1953 to work for NASA
  • In 1961 her work helped the first American to go into space. She calculated the path he would take from launch to landing
  • Her numerical skills were also used in the 1969 Apollo 11 Moon landing

Ada Lovelace

  • Gifted mathematician
  • Daughter of poet Lord Byron
  • Considered the world’s first programmer
  • One of the first women to be admitted into the Royal Astronomical Society
  • Mentored by Charles Babbage (known as the father of the computer
  • Her contributions to computer science were not discovered until the 1960s

Madame C.J. Walker

  • Born in Louisiana to former slaves
  • Sarah Breedlove was her real name
  • Worked as a laundress
  • Created a hair-care line tailored to black women in 1906
  • She died in 1919
  • Her net worth at the time of her death would be $9.76 million today

Kathrine Switzer

  • First female runner to enter the all-male Boston Marathon in bib #261
  • An official tried to yank her from the race
  • Author, commentator and marathon runner
  • Kathrine will celebrate the 50th anniversary of her historic run by entering the 121st Boston Marathon in 2017
  • Her global non-profit is called 261 Fearless, Inc

The Night Witches

  • All female Soviet regimen called Nachthexen-night witches
  • In 1941 Marina Raskova organized a band of all female pilots to fly combat missions at night without guns, parachutes or radios
  • Referred to as the 588th Regiment, they flew about 30,000 missions
  • Their first bombing mission was June 8, 1942
  • Their male counterparts resisted so they had to fight 2 enemies

Margaret Bourke- White

  • She was the first female war correspondent
  • A ground breaking photojournalist who covered diplomats in USSR, air forces in North Africa, migrant farmers in the Dust Bowl, and the army in Italy.
  • Staff photographer for Fortune and Life Magazines
  • Covered political and social issues in the 1930s and 1940s

Pat Johnson

  • LAPD Officer
  • In 1971 cared for an abandoned baby found in a Los Angeles hotel room
  • She fed the baby and kept her swaddled in a desk drawer until she was taken to a foster home

Women have had to face tremendous battles but through it all,  Women Rock! January 6th will be the release of Hidden Figures which is the true story of Katherine Johnson, please go out and support this and show the whole world that,  Women Rock!

    Katherine Johnson story “Hidden Figures” will be out in theaters come January 2017 with “A List” Celebrities such as Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae. This movie is not to be missed. We should all go out and support black entertainment and also try to promote these people who were pioneers in their various fields.
